Revision and Rebasing of Wage Rate Index (WRI) From 1969-70 to 2010-11

Wage Rate Index (WRI) is an important indicator for measuring the trend and changes in the aggregate wages of the wage earners of a country. Wage rate index is also used to measure changes in real wages. Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) as a national statistical organization (NSO) has been producing and publishing Wage Rate Index (WRI) since 1974 on regular basis. The Current bas e year of existing WRI (1969 - 70 =100) is outdated and therefore it may not be adequate for poli cy formulation and decision making as well as to satisfy the users’ need. With this backg round BBS has planned to revise and rebase existing WRI with 2010 - 11 as base year. This publication attempts to present detailed information on the wage rate and provi des information based on greater data set than those of the past. I hope that planners, researchers, policy makers and development par tners can find this publication of great use.
