State of the Bangladesh Economy in FY2006-07 and Outlook for FY2007-08

This volume of the IRBD 2007 analyses the performance of the economy in FY2006-07, and presents some of the likely outcomes in the following year. The Chapter I is an assessment of the state of the Bangladesh economy in FY2006-07. An analysis of the national budget for FY2007-08 is presented in Chapter II. Chapter III includes a set of proposals prepared by the CPD for consideration of the Ministry of Finance during the preparation of the national budget for FY2007-08. Chapter IV provides the summary of recommendations from the CPD study on Price of Daily Essentials: A Diagnostic Study of Recent Trends, prepared for the Ministry of Commerce. Chapter V includes an interim report by CPD on various trends of the Bangladesh economy during FY2007-08 and their implications for performance during the rest of the fiscal year. This chapter also identifies a set of structural and institutional measures the second Caretaker Government needs to take to create a conducive environment for a free and fair election. The volume also includes a dialogue report on the State of the Bangladesh Economy and Budget Responses FY2007-08, organised by the CPD on 14 June 2007, and a chronology of the major economic events that occurred during the FY2006-07 and the period between July-November 2007.
