Shelina Afroza

Ms. Shelina Afroza PhD is Additional Secretary to the Government and presently serving as Director General, National Institute of Population Research and Training (NIPORT) under Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. She did her Masters with Honors' in History form Dhaka University (1977) and M Phil from Calcutta University (1996). Ms. Shelina became member of Bangladesh Civil Service (Administration) cadre in 1982 (Special) batch and earned varied experiences. During the whole career, she served in the Dhaka Collectorate, Ministry of Local Government, Gazipur Collectorate, Ministry of foreign Affairs, Bangladesh Parliament Secretariat, Power Division, Ministry of Energy and Power, Ministry of Industries, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Bangladesh Embassy Moscow, Russia and Bangladesh High Commission Ottawa, Canada in different capacities. Ms. Shelina is daughter of Late Dr. Nazibur Rahman and Mrs. Hasina Rahman of Kushtia. She is married to Md. Abdul Hannan, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations in Geneva. They have two sons, Nabil Ayon Hannan, Director of Vulnerability Assessments and Managing Consultant, Cigital in Boston, and Sharjil Apon Hannan, studying Economics in Boston University. She loves music, reading, writing, travelling and cooking. She wrote three books in Bengali ("Chorittrogulo Kalponik Noy Bastob", "Gorbe Amar Chokhey Jol" and "Tobu Mone Rekho") mainly focused on the anecdotes of her personal and family life.
