Abudul Mannan Syed (1943-2010) in one of those significant poets who give their native poetry a sense of new direction. A poet of the golden sixities, Mannan in his very first book of verse struck a different note hitherto unknown in Bangla poetry. His Janmandho Kavita Guchch' (1967) explores a completely new world of Surrealism - and in this unfamiliar, often obscure world the reader failed to discover his stock response to the more facile world of contemporary politics, patriotism and angry note of resistance. As a poet Mannan never got stuck in a particular groove though surrealism remained a recurring theme.
