Shahabuddin Nagari : Midnight Locomotive and Other Poems

In the 1970s, Shahabuddin Nagari emerged in the scene of Bengali poetry with a distinctive voice. His poetry faithfully captures his inner feelings and reminds Robert Frost’s famous saving that “All poetry is a reproduction of the tones of actual speech”.
This volume contains 86 poems written between 1999 and 2009. They range from very emotive self-reflection to passionate response to social issues. However, romantic love predominates; and pangs of separation outweigh the joy of union. Although written in free flowing verses, without a couching in a particular rhyming scheme, his inclination for lyricism is obvious and occasionally reminds of twelfth centul Troubadour poems.
