The Present volume 'Shokal Prasangsha Taar' (1993) is one of the over 22 books of poems and is distinctly different from his other books. As he reached 50 he turned towards spiritual and religious themes. He perceived his whole being permeated by a strange light that led him to a world he has never wrote poems about. It marks a new beginning in his poetic career. Mannan was versatile writer and poet and is much acclaimed as a research. His research studies on Jibanananda Das and Nazrul are considered unparalleled. He published his study on Jibanananda tiled 'Suddhatama Kavi' Whe he was just 29. His three public lectures on Kazi Nazrul Islam were published in 2007 by North South University where he had the distinctionh of becoming a scholar in residence. Besides his poems and research studies, he has also written some novels, short stories and plays. Mannan received several literary awards like Bangla Academy. Alaol Literary Award. Alaol literary Award and Kavi Jasimuddin Award. He was awarded the Ekushey Padak in 2002.
